font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">September 24, 2024<\/span><\/p><p class=\"cvGsUA direction-ltr align-start para-style-body\"><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">I recently spoke with a 48-year-old friend who is part of the top leadership team at his company. He considers this position his \u201cdream job.\u201d However, he has recently started to worry about what the future holds when he turns 55.<\/span><\/p><p class=\"cvGsUA direction-ltr align-start para-style-body\"><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">I faced the same concern when I was 45 years old. It\u2019s something I\u2019ve been contemplating a lot over the past few years.<\/span><\/p><p class=\"cvGsUA direction-ltr align-start para-style-body\"><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">Corporate life often begins to fade around the age of 50. Many employees continue working in these companies until they are close to 60. Some reach VP level and have to travel around on a weekly basis. However, some individuals choose to leave the corporate race around the age of 45. It\u2019s at this point that we start to notice significant changes taking place.<\/span><\/p><p class=\"cvGsUA direction-ltr align-start para-style-body\"><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">According to a study conducted by <\/span><a class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\" draggable=\"false\" href=\"http:\/\/barrons.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Barron&#8217;<\/a><a class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\" draggable=\"false\" href=\"http:\/\/s.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">s.com<\/a><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">, 56% of workers over 50 will lose their jobs or be laid off at least once before they retire (yes, you read that right, 56%!). In addition, only 10% of those laid off are able to find jobs paying as much as their previous jobs.<\/span><\/p><p class=\"cvGsUA direction-ltr align-start para-style-body\"><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">Being over 45 has many positives:<\/span><\/p><ul><li><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">Our confidence in our abilities, accomplishments, and knowledge has increased.<\/span><\/li><li><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">Our patience and wisdom have grown.<\/span><\/li><li><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">It is evident we have a wealth of experience.<\/span><\/li><li><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">Having lived through many situations, we know how to handle them.<\/span><\/li><li><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">Money, position and fame become less important in life as we begin to value other things.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p class=\"cvGsUA direction-ltr align-start para-style-body\"><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">However, on the other hand<\/span><\/p><ul><li><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">Most people in the organization are younger than us<\/span><\/li><li><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">Compared to people with less experience, we are more expensive<\/span><\/li><li><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">As opposed to moving up the corporate ladder, we move into parallel positions<\/span><\/li><li><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">Money, position and fame become less important in life as we begin to value other things (Yeap! also on this list).<\/span><\/li><li><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">There is less flexibility in accepting changes: countries, responsibilities, positions<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p class=\"cvGsUA direction-ltr align-start para-style-body\"><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">As our careers grew, our lifestyle evolved. Consequently, we are more expensive workers, and our lives are more expensive as well. It is something we desperately want to preserve at all costs. Even if it\u2019s not the ideal situation, the perfect company, or the healthy environment we all strive for, our fear is that if we lose it, we may not be able to regain that position or salary. (Yes, you are right\u2026).<\/span><\/p><p class=\"cvGsUA direction-ltr align-justify para-style-body\"><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">Although the corporate environment after 50 can be challenging, many professionals thrive by leveraging their experience, adapting to change, and strategically planning for their future careers.<\/span><\/p><p class=\"cvGsUA direction-ltr align-justify para-style-body\"><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">Here are some examples:<\/span><\/p><ul><li><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">Some transition to entirely new fields, such as teaching or starting a new career.<\/span><\/li><li><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">Some use their experience to start their own businesses or move into consulting.<\/span><\/li><li><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">With decades of experience, some find that their expertise and confidence are highly valued in new roles.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p class=\"cvGsUA direction-ltr align-justify para-style-body\"><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">In a recent conversation with a friend whose company has communicated it will announce layoffs in a few weeks, he said, &#8220;If it&#8217;s my turn, I&#8217;ll need to start planning.&#8221; I replied, &#8220;Why wait?&#8221;.<\/span><\/p><p class=\"cvGsUA direction-ltr align-justify para-style-body\"><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">You might find yourself in one of several situations: you have a job you like at a company you love, you have a job you don\u2019t like, you have a job at a company you no longer love due to layoffs and reorganizations, or you don\u2019t have a job at all.<\/span><\/p><p class=\"cvGsUA direction-ltr align-justify para-style-body\"><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">In these scenarios, the odds may not seem favorable.<\/span><\/p><p class=\"cvGsUA direction-ltr align-justify para-style-body\">\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-86b6873 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"86b6873\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0b6e36b elementor-widget elementor-widget-image\" data-id=\"0b6e36b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"image.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/powerinsideout.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Diseno-sin-titulo-29.png\" title=\"\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" \/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-63cdb38 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"63cdb38\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6143a66 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"6143a66\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"cvGsUA direction-ltr align-justify para-style-body\"><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">If your company is going through stressful times or you\u2019re worried about your future in corporate life, it\u2019s crucial to start planning your career strategy today.<\/span><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\"> <span style=\"color: #0b4068; font-weight: bold;\">Everyone should have a career plan, regardless of their age or the stability of their company.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"cvGsUA direction-ltr align-justify para-style-body\"><span class=\"a_GcMg font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">If you\u2019re unsure about your next steps, how do you decide what to do next?
